About Us
Empowering caste-marginalized women towards dignity, safety, access, and justice
The Global Campaign for Dalit Women is a self-led initiative that aims to empower caste-marginalized women to pursue strategies that ensure them dignity, safety, access, and justice. We do this by adopting sustainable and proactive approaches to survivor support, leadership development, grassroots activism, and strategic partnerships. We forge deep connections with global communities by partnering with other marginalized groups and participating in international human rights mechanisms.
WHO ARE DALIT WOMEN?
Dalit women constitute 8% of the total Indian population, corresponding to approximately 100 million. However, this number does not include Dalit Christian and Dalit Muslim women. Dalit women also live in other South Asian countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Pakistan, and constitute a minority within South Asian diasporas distributed across the Caribbean, South Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Americas. In India, their key differentiators, by virtue of being victimized by caste, class, and patriarchy, include political powerlessness, economic deprivation, the everyday reality of caste-based violence, and socio-religious exclusion.
